Why Hilton Head Island Weddings Have a Special Place in My Heart

Storytime! When I was a young, aspiring planner aka a college student trying to find any way I could learn the ropes of being a planner, I interned in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Jeremy’s family owned a condo in Sea Pines Resort, giving us a place to live rent-free while we pursued our dreams. This time will always mean so much to me. It was the first time I lived more than 1 hour and 15 minutes away from my hometown. It was the first time Jeremy and I lived together on our own. I had a planning internship and Jeremy had an internship with a golf academy. We also both worked at one of out favorite restaurants on the island, Truffles Cafe, as servers. I think everyone should have to wait tables. You learn so much about customer service and how hard people in the service industry work.

This internship wasn’t exactly what I expected going into it but it was such an important step on the path to where I am now. I was doing a lot of social media analysis and writing “blog roundups” which I had never heard of before. Despite not learning much about planning I saw what it was like for someone to run a wedding business by themselves. My boss did everything herself and loved being able to control every aspect of her business. Something I can very much appreciate now that' I’m in her shoes.

During my time at this internship, I drove out to my boss’s home (about 45 minutes each way), three days a week to spend about 6 hours with her and soak up as much as possible. She was focused on a luxury, full-service market so she only took a handful of clients each year. I helped assist her at two weddings. One in May at the iconic, Lowndes Grove in Charleston. The other was in Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island. Both were perfection in every way. I’ll save the Lowndes Grove wedding for another day. The Sea Pines wedding ceremony was under The Liberty Oak at Harbor Town. Such a gorgeous spot overlooking the Harbor and the famous lighthouse. The ceremony ended just in time before a pop-up storm showed up. Cocktail hour and reception were held at The Atlantic Room at The Beach Club. I’ll never forget my first time seeing such beautiful linens and amazing floral installments. I’ve been obsessed with the design process of weddings ever since.

Thank you for taking this journey down memory lane with me. I’ve loved sharing with you!
