Going on venue visit after venue visit can be overwhelming. So we’ve created a list of questions you should consider asking each venue you visit to prevent surprises after you’ve signed your contract.

  • Is it possible to have the ceremony rehearsal on site, if so, is that included in the price?

  • What time will the rehearsal take place? Is there any flexibility in scheduling the rehearsal?

  • Is there a loading dock for loading items in and out?

  • When can things be dropped off at the venue?

  • Is there a coat check area?

  • Is security provided or recommended?

    • Is it included in the rental fee or is it an extra charge?

  • Is the venue handicap accessible?

  • Is there a bridal/groom's suite on site?

  • If it is a Jewish wedding, is there a spot for the yichud?

  • What kind of lighting is available at the venue?

    • Is it dimmable?

  • Where are the outlets located? This will help understand what kinds of layouts are possible. The DJ or band will also need access to outlets.

  • Where are the restrooms located? Are they wheelchair accessible?

  • Where does the caterer normally setup if there is no kitchen on site?

  • Are there alcohol restrictions? Some venues don’t allow red wine or dark liquor. Others require special permits. The caterer will often provide the permits. Still others will allow you to provide your own alcohol as long as the caterer serves it, whereas others won’t allow it at all.

  • Are there décor restrictions? (Ex. Confetti, flame, sparklers)

  • Is the venue general laid out in a certain way?

  • Does the venue do more than one event per day?

    • If so, will there be someone from the venue staff dedicated to your wedding?

  • Does the venue provide any equipment?

    • Tables/chairs

    • A/V

    • Lighting

    • Linens

    • Is there an inventory list available?

  • Is event insurance required?

  • Is there a time when breakdown has to be complete?

  • Are there any guidelines about trash disposal?

  • What additional fees will be added to the bill?

  • How much are you able to tailor packages? Can you eliminate items you won’t utilize?

  • What (if any) vendors are included?

  • Are there any restrictions on the types of outside vendors you can hire? (Some vendors will not allow you to hire an outside caterer)

  • If the venue is also catering, what are you choices for:

    • Food

    • Drink

    • Flowers

    • Cake

  • Will there be a venue coordination (which is not the same thing as a wedding coordinator btw) on site the day of your wedding?

  • Do they have a list of recommended vendors?
