Why I'm Already Making Changes in My Wedding Business

I recently launched my business and I’m already making changes. I launched with 3 packages Full Service Coordination, Partial Coordination and Month of Coordination. I’ve decided to eliminate the term “Month of Coordination” from my business. There is some controversy over this term in the wedding sphere. Some wedding pros think the term “day of” or “month of coordination” does not exist or should not exist. I’ve had this thought for years and found it bizarre to limit assistance to clients to 30 days or sometimes even less. I find it difficult to rationalize booking a client months in advance and then not talking to them again until one month before the wedding. It just doesn’t make sense to me. This is why I have decided to adopt the term “Wedding Management.” I feel this better encompasses the type of service I want to provide to my clients. I want to be there for them throughout the wedding planning process to give advice and expertise. In my opinion, this can help prevent chaos down the road. My clients will take care of booking and meeting with vendors on their own, but I will be there with any guidance should they need it. Clarity is kindness and the best way to ensure clarity is to be involved and informed throughout the process. This is also why my clients will have access to my planning software the moment they book. This will assist them in staying organized and allow me to know what they are working on prior to jumping in to help communicate with vendors the month of the wedding.

Here’s the distinction.. Most planners are completely hands off with their “month of” clients prior to their contractual 30 days (or whatever their timeframe is). I want to be there to offer expertise when needed and then have my clients hand over all of the logistics and vendor communication one month prior to the wedding. I want my clients to be able to enjoy the last 30 days of their engagement. I think this change will benefit my business and my clients.

I originally put “Month of Coordination” up on my site because I thought “This is what everyone else is doing so I should do it too.” Classic, am I right? It was weighing on my mind and I happened to be listening to a wedding professionals podcast when they brought up this very topic. I decided it’s never too early to change. I want to be at the forefront of this terminology change because frankly, “month of” or “day of coordination” just doesn’t exist and only leads to problems when it comes time for the couple to pass the baton to their planner. I’m excited for this change and can’t wait to see how the terminology shifts throughout the next few years.

Kate
