My Favorite Summer Wedding Flowers

Using seasonal flowers is something I love to suggest to my clients. It can help you save some money on the bottom line of your floral order. If you use non-seasonal flowers, odds are they’ll have to be shipped in from across the country or even the globe. Not sure which flowers are in season during the summer in the Charleston area? Keep reading to find out which ones are my personal favs that won’t break the bank!

First up are Lisianthus. They are available in the summer and fall. They can be grown in the Southern US, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Northern South America. I really love these blooms because they look like more delicate versions of roses. They can be a great filler bloom that easily compliment roses and ranunculus. These blooms do well with after they are cut, making them good for arrangements and bouquets. Lisianthus are available in blue, purple, white, pink, peach, and cream.

Next are Delphinium. They peak from June through October and can be grown in the US. I really enjoy adding these into centerpieces and large floral pieces to create asymmetry. They are hardy despite their delicate appearance. Delphinium are a long-stemmed flower with many blooms coming up the stem. This flower is available in white, pink, lavender, purple, and blue.

Last but not least, are Proteas. They are available in the summer and are native to South Africa and Australia. These flowers add great texture and interest to your bouquets or arrangements. Proteas have thick petals that allow them to retain water easily. They are able to handle the hot summer weather. They are available in a variety of colors, including pink, red, white, cream, and yellow.
