Modern Charleston Styled Shoot
Back in December, I teamed up with some fabulous vendors to create a edgy, modern shoot with a feminine twist. I was inspired by the trend of incorporating died florals into wedding design.
I really wanted to focus on featuring dried elements like cotton bolls and bleached Italian Ruscus.
We ended up taking a more feminine twist to the design when I saw what Alarie, our dear florally friend, brought as our centerpiece. There were the most precious pink accents throughout the arrangement, that we decided to throw in some pink napkins. Looking back, it was the perfect choice to soften up the design.
We took modern design aspects such as black plates, black flatware, black and smoky glassware and acrylic place cards and combined them with soft pink tones to create the ultimate fantasy.
The key to keeping designs that include black elements inviting is sprinkling in natural tones throughout the design. We opted to include these wood toned folding chairs and florals featuring soft natural tones.
We stacked two matte black plates, added a dusty rose napkin, layered a fun menu, and styled in a cotton boll to each place setting.
The bridal gown was from the amazing Magnolia Bride of Charleston. We styled the long sleeved crepe gown on one of the exposed brick walls and surrounded it with candles. It gave the gown the ethereal setup it deserves.
To keep with the modern Charleston aesthetic. We elected to create a clean black and white suite. By utilizing elements like vellum, wax seals and sketches of greenery, we kept the suite approachable while keeping it fresh.
I really love the idea of creating signage with the wedding day timeline instead of printing ceremony programs. It can be a great alternative to the tradition.
The groom’s style came from a photo I saw of a groom in all black. I instantly fell in love with this fun twist on the classic tuxedo look. Alarie adorned the lapel of this velvet tuxedo jacket with a boutonnière featuring the same dried elements we saw in the bride’s bouquet and table centerpiece. The groom’s bow tie is a stunning piece from Botany Bow Ties. It boasts the same natural tones we layered throughout the shoot.
I love bringing geometric aspects into a modern design. This bar cart was a no brainer addition. We used it as a stylish service cart for the bride and groom’s cake, rose and Dom. The double shelf bar cart was the perfect spot for an additional floral piece.
It was such a pleasure planning and designing this shoot. I loved working with all of the amazing vendors who contributed their time, energy, and financial resources. Please check out the entire list of vendors below.
